Michigan Fugitive Recaptured After Daring Police Car Escape
A Michigan woman who made a dramatic escape from police custody over the weekend has been successfully returned to custody, according to the Muskegon County Prosecutor's Office.
The incident involved 38-year-old Kendra Aney, who was confirmed to be back in custody as of Tuesday morning. Her initial apprehension and subsequent flight captured significant local attention.
The Initial Arrest and Audacious Escape
The sequence of events began Saturday afternoon when a Muskegon Heights Police Department officer was patrolling near Norton Avenue and Peek Street. The officer observed a vehicle parked suspiciously at an abandoned business and initiated contact with the occupants around 3:30 p.m.
Kendra Aney was a passenger in the vehicle but could not be immediately identified by the first officer. A second officer was called to the scene, bringing a fingerprint scanner which confirmed her identity.
Police stated that Aney was taken into custody based on an active warrant for a parole violation. She was subsequently placed in the back of a patrol vehicle.
Video Evidence of the Flight
Aney did not remain detained for long. Video footage captured in Muskegon Heights on Saturday showed the woman maneuvering herself out of a partially opened window of the police vehicle.
The footage documented her lowering herself to the ground while still handcuffed before fleeing the scene on foot. Officers reportedly did not realize she had escaped until after she was gone.
Subsequent Alleged Crimes and Recapture
Approximately one hour following her escape, Aney allegedly committed a breaking and entering at a residence on Peck Street. She remained at large until her capture on Tuesday morning.
According to the Muskegon County Jail inmate list, Aney is currently being held for violating her parole. Michigan Department of Correction records indicate that Aney allegedly absconded from parole on January 12, 2026.
Her original sentence was for the crime of delivering or manufacturing narcotics. Police have filed a breaking and entering charge related to her time on the run and anticipate seeking further charges concerning the escape itself.
