Google Home Receives Major Gemini AI Upgrade
Google Home is receiving a significant update focused on improving the capabilities of its Gemini AI assistant. The update aims to make controlling smart home devices with voice commands “more natural and reliable,” according to Google’s release notes.
More Precise and Descriptive Commands
The latest enhancements allow Gemini to understand more detailed and descriptive requests. Users can now describe desired lighting effects, such as requesting “the color of the ocean,” and Gemini will select a corresponding color.
Improved Device Recognition
Google has also refined Gemini’s ability to differentiate between similar devices. For example, Gemini can now distinguish between a “lamp” and a “light,” leading to faster and more accurate request fulfillment.
Expanded Functionality and Accessibility
Users can now utilize more natural language when controlling appliances and climate settings. Examples include commands like “preheat the smart oven to 350 degrees” or setting specific humidity levels.
Kids with supervised Google accounts now have access to Gemini for Home, expanding the assistant’s accessibility.
Gemini Live Enhancements
This update builds upon earlier improvements, including the introduction of “Live Search” for cameras and enhanced contextual understanding. Google is also updating Gemini Live, a feature enabling conversational interactions with the assistant.
Deeper and More Interactive News Summaries
Gemini Live’s news summaries are now more comprehensive and interactive on both smart displays and speakers. Users can ask for updates like “What’s the latest news?” or “Catch me up on tech news” to receive detailed summaries.
All of these updates are currently rolling out to Google Home users.
