Girls Revived: HBO Announces Five-Episode Limited Series
Girls Revived: HBO Announces Five-Episode Limited Series It's officially the start of a new era for a major HBO classic. Over the last couple of years, the HBO library has expanded in various genres, from fantasy hits in the Game of Thrones franchise, mystery thrillers like True Detective, video game adaptations such as The Last of Us, and more recently the massive expansion of the DC IPs with The Penguin and Lanterns. As the prestige channel continues to build out its programming slate, a major property that ended almost a decade ago is set to make a surprise comeback. HBO and Warner Bros TV are reviving Lena Dunham's Girls, as a five episode limited series is set to go into production in 2027. The lead star and creator shared the following statement We always said we would only return to GIRLS if there was a specific story we were burning to tell.Girls Revival AnnouncedI've missed these characters, but for a long time I couldn't quite picture them in the present day. Then, right around my fortieth birthday, they started talking to me in the shower. And, as you may remember, once this fivesome starts talking it's pretty hard to get them to stop... It's rare that you get the chance to return to something that changed your life with the gift of hindsight and a whole new level of gratitude and understanding.I love these girls and boy, our friends at HBO, and all the people who have continued to discover the show and remind us afresh why we do this, which is the joy of being together... and the chance to wear yellow mesh... The five episode run will include the return of Allison Williams as Marnie Michaels, Jemima Kirke as Jessa Johansson, Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna Shapiro, and Andrew Rannells as Elijah Krantz. The story will be set 10 years after the original Girls series finale. Amy Gravitt, who is the Executive Vice President and Head of HBO amp HBO Max Comedy Programming, praised the Girls revival, stating how we're thrilled to have Lena turn her gaze from the tumult of one's twenties to the milestone of turning forty.Future Release Details UncertainTo say the world has changed since we last saw Hannah Marnie Shoshanna Jessa and Elijah is a massive understatement, but we know fans - old and new - will be happy to see how they've grown and relieved to see that they're still the 'Girls' we knew way back when. As of writing, a release date has not been set for the show's return.
