Georgia Tech Guard Akai Fleming to Seek Transfer
Georgia Tech freshman guard Akai Fleming has announced his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report by On3 Sports’ Joe Tipton. This news marks the latest in a series of roster changes for the Yellow Jackets.
Roster Changes Continue for Yellow Jackets
Fleming joins Baye Ndongo, Mouhamed Sylla, Brandon Stores, and Peyton Marshall as Georgia Tech players who have entered the transfer portal. The team is facing significant roster adjustments as the Scott Cross era begins.
Fleming's Freshman Season Highlights
During his freshman campaign, Fleming averaged 10.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. He quickly earned a starting role and became a key contributor for Georgia Tech.
Career Performance and Late-Season Surge
Fleming recorded a career-high 20 points against Lafayette, shooting 4-of-8 from the field. He finished the season strong, scoring in double figures in each of the final four games, including an 18-point performance against Clemson. He reached double-digit scoring in 18 games overall.
Fleming on Finding His Rhythm
Fleming spoke earlier in the season about his ability to quickly find his scoring touch. “I definitely did feel more comfortable going out there compared to the first game,” Fleming said. “Having my team uplift me just by telling me to keep going…When I seen the first shot go in, you know, it kind of lit up something in me.”
Looking Ahead for Georgia Tech
Fleming’s departure is a significant change for the Yellow Jackets. His ability to score quickly and efficiently will be missed. Georgia Tech is now poised for a substantial roster overhaul and will welcome a new group of players under Coach Cross. Fleming is expected to be a sought-after player in the transfer portal.
