Gaza – Investigators have reported harrowing cases of alleged child sexual abuse perpetrated by members of Hamas and clerics within the Gaza Strip. Victims are reportedly being blackmailed into joining the organization or silenced through threats against their families.
Disturbing Testimonies Emerge
The Daily Mail has obtained disturbing testimonies from young boys detailing their experiences. Filmed accounts, obtained by Jusoor News and shared with The Daily Mail, feature two anonymous boys, aged nine and ten, describing sexual assault by a Sheikh at a local mosque.
Accounts of Abuse
Both boys recounted similar experiences, being lured under false pretenses and subjected to horrific abuse in restrooms. One boy was warned not to tell his father, while the other stopped attending the mosque after hearing of similar incidents.
Threats and Intimidation
A 42-year-old father shared the agonizing story of discovering his son’s injuries and learning the head Imam was responsible. His confrontation with the Imam was met with denial and chilling threats invoking the Al-Qassam Brigades and accusations of being an Israeli collaborator.
Hamas Response to Complaints
Following the confrontation, Hamas members reportedly visited his home, escalating threats against him and his family if he pursued the matter. Another father, from Deir al-Balah, testified his son was molested by an Imam providing religious education.
When he sought justice through Hamas security, he was coerced into withdrawing his complaint under threat of being falsely accused of collaboration with Israel.
Systematic Exploitation Allegations
A former Palestinian Authority security officer alleges that Hamas clerics deliberately use rape as a method of control, binding children and their families through fear and preventing them from leaving or speaking out. He estimates knowing of at least four or five such cases.
Lack of Accountability
The officer emphasized the lack of accountability within Hamas, stating that no disciplinary action is ever taken. Jusoor News reports this exploitation extends to orphaned children and unmarried women, with Hamas using harassment and exploitation to instill fear and pressure young boys into future recruitment.
These stories are reportedly widely known among the local population in Gaza, highlighting a pervasive culture of abuse and intimidation.
