World Cup Trophy Arrives in Salt Lake City
Soccer enthusiasts in Salt Lake City were treated to a special event on Wednesday as the authentic FIFA World Cup trophy made a stop in the city. This visit is part of a global tour leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which promises to be the largest tournament to date.
Global Tour Building Anticipation
The iconic trophy has been traveling internationally since the start of the year, visiting 30 FIFA member associations and making over 75 stops worldwide. The tour is sponsored by Coca-Cola and is specifically designed to generate excitement for the expanded 2026 World Cup.
Coca-Cola and FIFA Highlight Tournament Expansion
“This is of course to get people ready for the FIFA World Cup 2026,” explained Erica Hansen, a spokesperson for Coca-Cola. “This is going to be a big one, this is going to be bigger than ever with more countries and more games, so there’s already a lot of excitement.” The 2026 tournament will feature more teams, matches, and participating countries than ever before.
Former Champion Emphasizes Unity
Former World Cup champion Gilberto Silva also shared his thoughts on the tournament. “The United States is hosting this competition to bring all of us together for a great purpose: to bring happiness to people,” Silva stated. His comments underscore the unifying power of the World Cup.
Next Stop on the Tour
The trophy was on display in Salt Lake City for invited guests and fans before continuing its journey. Its next destination is Portland, Oregon, as the tour progresses across the globe.
