According to the death certificate obtained by People on Monday, Eric Dane died from respiratory failure. The underlying cause contributing to this was Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Euphoria creator Sam Levinson shared his profound grief following the actor's death. Levinson told Page Six that he was "heartbroken" over the loss of his "dear friend."
Levinson also offered reassurance regarding the show's status. He stated, "I can assure you that we are in production and we are shooting a really great TV show." He added, "Eric’s family is in our prayers. May his memory be for a blessing."
Dane's Deep Connection to Cal Jacobs
Before his death, Dane discussed the effort he invested in portraying Cal Jacobs, particularly in an interview for Netflix’s Famous Last Words. The Grey’s Anatomy alum felt a strong connection to the character's internal struggles.
