Dolly Parton has made a substantial donation to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, resulting in the facility being renamed Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital. The country music icon’s contribution aims to enhance the quality of care provided to young patients.

Hospital Leadership Praises Parton’s Commitment

Hospital President and CEO Tony Schaefer described Parton’s donation as “generational and transformational.” He stated, “What I can tell you is that she has made a generational and transformational commitment to Children’s and its mission…that commitment is something that goes beyond our wildest expectations, that is beyond generous, and will be a lifeline for this mission for now and for years to come.”

Funding Focus and Expanded Services

While the exact amount of the donation remains undisclosed, Schaefer emphasized its impact on the organization and the surrounding community. The funding will be allocated to several key areas, benefiting both patients and medical staff.

  • Neuroscience, particularly epilepsy treatment
  • Pediatric gastroenterology
  • Pediatric ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat)

Schaefer explained that the donation will allow children to receive “high-quality care” without needing to leave the region.

Hospital leadership also hopes Parton’s association will attract skilled medical professionals. “I hope that’s a big part of how Dolly coming alongside our mission helps us do more than we could have in any imaginable way,” Schaefer said, referencing residency recruitment and training pediatricians.

The renaming of the hospital was announced in February. Parton expressed her deep connection to the area, stating, “Being fortunate to have grown up in the mountains of East Tennessee, I learned early on what it means to take care of one another.”
