David Cross, known for his sharp wit and iconic roles, recently shared 25 personal facts in a feature with Us Weekly. The Emmy winner, 61, offered insights into his life, career, and quirky interests.

Childhood & Family

Cross recounted a vivid childhood memory from age nine in Syracuse, New York, during a blizzard. He attempted to sell greeting cards door-to-door to save for a watch, but was unsuccessful. He then returned home to learn his dog had passed away.

Charitable Work & Possessions

The comedian actively supports several charities, with Little Essentials in New York holding a special place in his heart. He praised the organization’s dedication to providing essential supplies and parenting education to at-risk families.

While his house holds the most monetary value, Cross cherishes his signed first print edition of Masters of Atlantis by Charles Portis, a gift from his wife.

Hobbies & Talents

Cross enjoys foraging for mushrooms with his daughter and their dog in the woods. He also collects baseball cards, focusing on Bowman Chrome and Topps Chrome sets, particularly those with rookie autographs.

A Useless Talent

He possesses a peculiar, yet entirely useless, talent: accurately guessing the temperature within one degree. “Like, if we were outside and you said, ‘How hot do you think it is?’ I’d go, ‘Hmmm, about 71 degrees,’ and I’d be right,” Cross explained. “Absolutely worthless.”

Career & Embarrassing Moments

Cross recently brought his humor to YouTube with his stand-up special, The End of the Beginning of the End, released on April 7th.

On-Stage Mishap

He shared a recent embarrassing moment while performing in Tartuffe, where he froze mid-monologue and lost his lines. Fortunately, his scene partner prompted him, saving the performance. “Awful feeling,” he admitted.

Celebrity Encounters & Bucket List

While not easily starstruck, Cross was thrilled to spend an hour and a half with baseball legend Chipper Jones, calling it an “unforgettable” experience.

He recalled a dangerous scene in The Dark Divide, where he nearly hypothermia while filming a river scene. The stunt coordinator had to pull him from the icy water.

Crush & Karaoke

Cross revealed his childhood celebrity crush was Nastassja Kinski. His go-to karaoke songs include “To Sir With Love” and, for a more chaotic vibe, “Eat It” by Weird Al Yankovic.

Looking ahead, Cross added that going into space is on his bucket list, having already completed the Inca Trail hike and a dive in the Blue Hole in Belize.
