Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has publicly stated that golf icon Tiger Woods deserves to be placed "behind bars" following his recent arrest for driving under the influence (DUI) in Jupiter Island, Florida.
Portnoy's Harsh Verdict on Woods' DUI
Speaking on his Monday episode of the "Wake Up Barstool" show, the 49-year-old Portnoy questioned Woods' judgment regarding the incident. He stressed that there is no acceptable excuse for driving while impaired.
"What is wrong with Tiger Woods?" Portnoy asked his audience. He argued that Woods, 50, should employ a driver given his status. "You can have somebody drive you. He should have a driver with him wherever he goes. There is no excuse."
The Risk of Impaired Driving
Portnoy emphasized the danger Woods posed to the public by getting behind the wheel while impaired. He noted that such actions endanger innocent people on the road, not just the driver.
The Barstool Sports founder stated he has "no sympathy for the guy" and advocated for incarceration as a necessary deterrent. "Put him behind bars. Put him in jail for a little bit and make him wake up," Portnoy charged.
He concluded his remarks by reiterating the seriousness of the situation. "Seriously, you cannot have sympathy for the guy right now. Get a driver, you’re going to kill somebody innocent."
Details Emerge from the Arrest Incident
Woods' arrest occurred shortly after he was involved in a rollover car crash near his residence in Jupiter Island. Police reports revealed significant findings from the scene.
The affidavit confirmed that "two white pills" were discovered in Woods' "left side pant pocket," which were later identified as hydrocodone. Although Woods denied consuming alcohol or illegal substances, he reportedly admitted to taking "a few" prescription medications.
Privacy Concerns Cited for Lack of Driver
An insider suggested that Woods’ refusal to hire a personal driver stems from his desire for privacy. The source told People over the weekend that Woods "doesn’t want anyone to watch over him or know what he is doing."
This is not the first legal trouble for the five-time Masters champion in the area; he was previously arrested for a DUI in Jupiter, Florida, in May 2017.
Other Public Figures React to the Incident
Portnoy was not the only public figure to criticize Woods following the crash and subsequent DUI arrest. Former NFL player Emmanuel Acho also weighed in.
Acho, 35, stated on "Speakeasy" that Woods has too many responsibilities and too much to lose to face jail time for DUIs in 2026. He questioned how many times this situation would repeat itself.
Furthermore, details regarding Woods' relationship status emerged. A source told the Daily Mail that girlfriend Vanessa Trump, 48, has issued an ultimatum: "If he can’t fix this, she will 100 percent walk."
