Costco Bourbon Inspired by $1.50 Hot Dog Combo Sells Out
A new bourbon available exclusively at Costco locations in the Washington, D.C., area is generating significant buzz – and it’s all thanks to a $1.50 fan-favorite snack. “I Got That Dog in Me,” produced by Rare Character Whiskey, is priced at nearly $90 a bottle.
A Unique Inspiration
The bourbon’s label features an image of Costco’s all-beef hot dog and a fountain soda, clearly paying homage to the beloved combo. Despite the imagery, no hot dog flavor has been reported in the bourbon itself. The drink is aged for 11 years and 4 months.
Positive Reception and Rapid Sales
Despite the unusual inspiration, the bourbon has received overwhelmingly positive reviews online. One reviewer noted, “Very good. I get lots of oak, marshmallow, and maybe something spicy that I can’t quite name? Cardamom or cinnamon, maybe?” Another described “A little leather on the nose… Excellent bottle.”
Launched in late March, “I Got That Dog in Me” is limited to one bottle per Costco membership. A Reddit user reported that bottles sold out by 9:45 AM after being restocked overnight.
Secondary Market Demand
Due to high demand, the bourbon is now appearing on the secondary market for upwards of $500. Fans are eager to acquire a bottle, with one user stating, “If someone is willing to part with theirs, I will jump on the opportunity for one!”
Costco's Iconic Combo
Costco has famously maintained the price of its hot dog and soda combo at $1.50 since 1985. In 2024, an Ohio resident even went viral for eating nothing but the combo for an entire week, spending only $45 on meals due to rising food costs.
Customers have praised Costco’s “meta” move of bringing the bourbon to shelves, with some jokingly suggesting a mini hot dog be included inside each bottle.
