Colorado Ski Resorts Facing Closures
Four Colorado ski resorts will cease operations this weekend, reducing the number of open areas to just nine statewide. This follows the earlier closure of ten other resorts, signaling a rapid end to the ski season for many.
Resorts Closing This Weekend
Crested Butte, Keystone, and Steamboat will all close on Sunday, offering limited terrain for final runs. Wolf Creek Ski Area is also scheduled to close on Easter, but will do so with a comparatively robust 90% of its terrain accessible.
Vail's Limited Operations
Vail Resort is currently operating with only 8% of its terrain open. The lower mountain is closed to skiers, who are required to download via the gondolas after skiing the upper mountain. Vail is scheduled to remain open until April 19.
Remaining Ski Areas
After Sunday, the following nine Colorado ski areas will continue to operate: Snowmass (37% terrain open), Loveland, Eldora, Aspen Mountain, Copper Mountain, Breckenridge, Vail, Winter Park, and Arapahoe Basin.
Closing Dates for Remaining Resorts
Snowmass is slated to close on April 12, with Vail, Aspen, and Eldora following on April 19. Copper Mountain aims to stay open until April 26. Officials at Winter Park, Breckenridge, Arapahoe Basin, and Loveland have indicated they will remain open as long as conditions allow.
Recent Snowfall Impact
This week’s storm brought 22 inches of snow to Crested Butte and 19 inches to Wolf Creek. However, most other areas received only 1-4 inches of snowfall, contributing to the decision to close.
