Colorado Culinary Stars Earn Top Honors at 2026 James Beard Awards
The James Beard Foundation has announced its highly anticipated list of 2026 finalists, featuring five distinguished honorees from Colorado. These nominations span eleven different categories, recognizing excellence across the national culinary landscape.
The selected individuals and establishments represent a broad spectrum of the state's dining scene, from fine dining destinations to innovative beverage programs.
Outstanding Chef and Restaurateur Recognition
Josh Niernberg, representing the Western Slope, received significant recognition. He is a finalist in the prestigious Outstanding Chef category for his work at Bin 707 Foodbar in Grand Junction.
This marks the second consecutive year Niernberg has been named a semifinalist in this category, highlighting sustained excellence.
In the Outstanding Restaurateur category, Denver favorites Tommy Lee and Johnny Curiel are recognized. Their nomination acknowledges their success with Hop Alley and Molino Chido, despite Curiel being listed for his contributions at his initial restaurant venture.
Beverage and Service Finalists Announced
The beverage world also saw Colorado representation among the finalists. Ryan Fletter, the longtime owner and sommelier at Barolo Grill, earned a nomination.
Fletter is a finalist in the Outstanding Professional in Beverage Service category. This highlights his expertise and dedication to the service aspect of the industry.
Denver Favorites Recognized
Several Denver-based talents also made the final cut. Johnny Curiel and Penelope Wong are among the recognized Denver favorites securing spots on the finalist list.
McLain Hedges and Mary Allison Wright, the owners of Yacht Club, also received nominations, further cementing Denver's strong presence in this year's awards.
While the semifinalist for Outstanding Bar, Lady Jane, did not ultimately advance to the finalist stage, the overall showing for Colorado remains robust across multiple key areas.
