CoinDCX, the cryptocurrency exchange backed by Coinbase, is launching a significant initiative to combat digital fraud following a recent legal victory for its leadership team. The exchange plans to roll out a comprehensive anti-fraud network aimed at tackling brand impersonation and cyber scams targeting users.

Founders Cleared in Impersonation Case

Court Finds No Prima Facie Case

The announcement comes just days after an Indian court determined there was “no prima facie” case against CoinDCX’s co-founders, Sumit Gupta and Neeraj Khandelwal. The legal matter stemmed from a complaint related to a fake “CoinDCX Pro” website.

This fraudulent site had reportedly cheated an investor out of approximately $75,000. The court noted that the complainant had never actually met the real founders, confirming CoinDCX’s assertion that the fraud was executed by unrelated third parties posing as executives.

Introduction of the Digital Suraksha Network

A Sector-Wide Cyber Safety Push

CoinDCX co-founder and CEO Sumit Gupta detailed the new commitment in a post on X on March 30. The initiative is branded as the Digital Suraksha Network, backed by an investment of 100 crore Indian rupees (approximately $11 million).

Gupta emphasized that this issue extends beyond the crypto industry. “This is not a crypto problem,” he stated, arguing that any entity with a digital presence faces the risk of brand copying and misuse against consumers.

Key Components of the Network

The proposed Digital Suraksha Network includes several key features designed to enhance user security:

  • A proposed 24/7 WhatsApp helpline allowing users to verify platform links before transferring funds.
  • An open fraud intelligence API, which will be populated by CoinDCX’s database of identified fake websites.
  • Training support for state cybercrime cells focused on blockchain forensics and asset tracing techniques.
  • A public awareness campaign titled “Caution Before Transaction,” targeting general digital finance users.

Timeline and Funding Details Pending

While the scope of the network is ambitious, Gupta did not immediately provide a detailed timeline for the rollout. Furthermore, the specific amount budgeted or deployed from the $11 million commitment at this stage remains unspecified.
