Chrysler Issues Recall for Pacifica and Voyager Minivans

Chrysler is recalling 178,246 Pacifica and Voyager minivans due to a potential defect in the side curtain airbags. The recall stems from concerns that the airbags may not remain inflated long enough during a crash, potentially increasing the risk of injury to occupants.

Affected Models and Production Dates

The recall impacts 154,367 Pacifica minivans manufactured between May 17, 2022, and August 8, 2025. Additionally, 23,879 Voyager minivans built from May 17, 2022, through August 7, 2025, are included in the recall.

Airbag Performance Concerns

The issue centers around the curtain airbags’ ability to maintain sufficient pressure after deployment. If the airbags deflate too quickly, they may not adequately protect occupants during a side impact or rollover accident. Federal regulations require airbags to limit head movement during a crash, and some of the affected airbags failed to meet this standard due to improperly sealed seams.

Recall History and Investigation

Chrysler initially recalled a smaller number of vehicles in May 2023 over similar airbag concerns. Further investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and supplier Autoliv revealed the problem was more widespread than originally anticipated. Chrysler estimates that approximately 30 percent of the recalled vehicles – over 53,000 minivans – may have the defect.

Repair Details and Timeline

The recall involves three separate campaigns, with some vehicles requiring replacement of both curtain airbags, while others need only the driver-side or passenger-side unit replaced. Dealers will begin checking Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) and performing repairs in early April. Owners will receive notification letters beginning in mid-May. The repair involves replacing the defective airbags with updated parts designed to maintain proper pressure during deployment.
