Chris Russo on Tiger Woods' DUI Arrest

Chris “Mad Dog” Russo publicly placed blame on Tiger Woods’ friends following his recent DUI arrest after a car crash. Russo questioned the actions – or lack thereof – of those closest to the golf legend, particularly in light of Woods’ ongoing struggles.

Russo's Criticism of Woods' Circle

During Wednesday’s episode of ESPN’s “First Take,” Russo specifically pointed to Woods’ close friend, Justin Thomas, and other golfers. He wondered why no one had directly addressed Woods’ behavior over the past 15 years.

Quote from Chris Russo

“I’m gonna blame the golf people here too. Justin Thomas is his best friend…the golf media, his agent, how about somebody in the last 15 years say, ‘Tiger, enough of this nonsense’ instead of genuflecting in front of Tiger,” Russo stated. He suggested that a fear of upsetting Woods prevented anyone from intervening.

Details of the Arrest

Police reported that Woods was traveling at “high speeds” and appeared “lethargic and slow,” and was “sweating profusely.” While a breathalyzer test came back negative, Woods refused a urine test. He has since pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge.

Woods Seeks Treatment

Following the arrest, Tiger Woods is now seeking “comprehensive inpatient treatment” at an undisclosed location outside of the country, citing privacy concerns. This incident marks Woods’ fourth involving a vehicle.

Reactions and Support

Stephen A. Smith, also on “First Take,” questioned why Woods would drive himself given his wealth. The PGA released a statement expressing full support for Woods, stating, “The PGA stands in full support of Tiger Woods as he steps away to focus on his health and well-being.”

PGA Statement

The PGA’s statement continued, “During this time we are keeping tiger in our thoughts and prayers, with sincere hop for this strength, comfort and recovery. Tiger has meant so much to our Association and to the game of golf. … We commend Tiger for prioritizing his long-term health and deeply respect the courage it takes to make such a personal decision.”

Russo expressed concern for Woods’ safety and the potential for a tragic outcome, stating, “The next funeral is going to be his or somebody else’s that we’re going to have to go to.” He added, “He’s lucky didn’t kill somebody here.”
