Chicago South Side Shooting Injures Three

An 8-year-old girl and two adults were wounded in a shooting in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood on Tuesday, according to police reports.

Details of the Incident

The shooting took place around 4:48 p.m. in the 3400 block of South King Drive, outside a Dunkin’ and Baskin Robbins located in the Lake Meadows Shopping Center. A dark-colored SUV reportedly approached the three victims and gunfire was discharged.

Victims and Their Conditions

The victims included an 8-year-old girl, a 28-year-old woman, and a 24-year-old man. The girl sustained a gunshot wound to the foot and was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital in good condition.

The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the knee and received treatment at the University of Chicago Medical Center, also listed in good condition. The man was shot in the arm, chest, and groin and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he is reported to be in good condition.

Witness Reactions

Ruwaida Henri, who had just finished a workout at a nearby LA Fitness, expressed her fear. “It’s very scary to know this. It’s happening while we were in the gym. It’s an active neighborhood. People are always outside. It’s a little scary to know that. It’s terrible. It’s sad,” she said.

Larry Young, who was about to purchase coffee after his workout, voiced his outrage. “It’d be so many people out here. A lot of these people, they can’t even get in their cars, nervous about somebody who’s selling and robbing you and stuff… It’s sad we really can’t do nothing,” Young stated.

Ongoing Investigation

Police have indicated that at least one suspect was involved in the shooting, but no arrests have been made as of Wednesday morning. The investigation is currently ongoing.

A window at the Dunkin’ location was also damaged during the shooting.
