Classes have been canceled at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde, Texas, today. This action follows a serious incident where investigators confirmed a 15-year-old male student shot a teacher and subsequently turned the weapon on himself.
Incident Details and Immediate Aftermath
The event took place on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the Bulverde campus, a growing community situated near San Antonio. No other individuals sustained injuries during the shooting.
The injured teacher was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds addressed the media hours later, stating he did not have information regarding the teacher's current medical status.
Law Enforcement Response and Investigation
Sheriff Reynolds acknowledged the gravity of the situation, noting, “What happened today is something no community ever wants to face, but we prepare for something that we hope never occurs.” He confirmed the sequence of events involved the student shooting the teacher before committing suicide.
Investigators are currently focused on two key areas: determining the exact relationship between the student and the teacher, and tracing how the student acquired the firearm used in the attack.
Campus Lockdown and Reunification Process
The high school, which serves approximately 250 students, was placed on lockdown shortly after 8:30 a.m., according to an official school announcement. Following the lockdown, students were safely bused to a nearby middle school facility.
Parents arrived at the reunification site, forming long lines as they waited anxiously to be reunited with their children. Sheriff Reynolds confirmed that the shooter's family members were also present in the reunification line.
Support for the School Community
Principal Julie Wiley issued a statement confirming the cancellation of classes for the following day. She emphasized that counseling services would be made available to all affected students and their families.
Wiley expressed deep sympathy for those affected by the tragedy. “Our hearts are with everyone impacted, especially that teacher, their family, and our school community,” she stated, acknowledging the difficulty of the day for everyone involved.
