Bulverde School Shooting Incident
On Monday, March 30, law enforcement responded to reports of gunfire at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde, Texas. A 15-year-old male student shot a teacher before turning the gun on himself, according to investigators.
Weapon Used in Shooting
Comal County officials confirmed to FOX 7 Austin that the firearm used in the shooting was a .357 revolver. The weapon belonged to the student’s grandfather, officials stated.
Investigation Details
Investigators believe the student brought the gun from home. A search warrant was executed at the student’s residence, and several electronic devices were seized for forensic examination. Authorities are currently investigating whether academic difficulties played a role in the incident, but any prior disciplinary history remains unknown.
School Response and Closure
Following the shooting, the school was immediately placed on lockdown. Students were transported to a nearby middle school to be reunited with their parents and guardians.
The Hill Country College Preparatory High School campus was closed on Tuesday and will remain closed through the end of the week. This closure is to facilitate the ongoing investigation and provide time for students and staff to process the traumatic event.
Community Support for Injured Teacher
Comal ISD is encouraging the community to show support for the injured teacher by wearing blue or a blue ribbon on Thursday, April 2 and Tuesday, April 7. Superintendent Dr. John E. Chapman III described Monday as “one of the hardest days our district has faced.”
Dr. Chapman III stated, “It’s simply a visible reminder that she is surrounded by people who care. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is to show up and let someone know that they are loved and that they’re not alone.”
