Booker Levels 'Grifting' Accusation Against Trump
During an appearance on MS NOW’s “Deadline” on Tuesday, Senator Cory Booker strongly criticized former President Donald Trump, accusing him of “openly grifting millions of dollars” through cryptocurrency ventures. Booker’s remarks centered on concerns about financial dealings and national security implications.
Focus on a Broader Vision for the Country
Booker stated that defeating Trump requires more than simply opposing his policies. He argued, “This has got to be a moment in the we don’t just beat Trump. It’s not just what we’re against. We need to start talking about what we’re for and having a bolder vision for what we can be as a country and who we can be together.”
Concerns Over Brazen Corruption
Host Nicolle Wallace noted the public’s general dislike of corruption and the “brazenness” of Trump’s actions, suggesting a belief that Democrats may be unable to challenge him effectively. Wallace stated, “I mean, no one likes any of those things, right? Voters hate corruption, and they’re doing it out in full view. There’s a brazenness that suggests that they don’t think Democrats can beat them.”
Trump's Financial Gains and National Security Risks
Booker responded by acknowledging some culpability within the Democratic Party regarding money in politics. However, he maintained that Trump’s actions were unprecedented. He claimed Trump earned more money during his single term than all previous U.S. presidents combined.
Allegations of Payments from Countries with National Security Interests
According to Booker, Trump allegedly received “millions of millions of dollars in payments through his crypto schemes” from nations with significant national security interests. He further asserted that Trump then provided these countries with favors previously denied by both Republican and Democratic administrations.
Booker concluded by emphasizing the importance of shifting the focus away from Trump as the central figure in American politics. He believes the focus should be on defining a positive future for the country, stating, “The main character has got to be what are we doing?”
