Discovery Made During East Side Brush Fire Response

New details have surfaced regarding a body discovered last weekend amid efforts to extinguish a brush fire on San Antonio's East Side. Firefighting crews were dispatched to the scene around 7:30 a.m. on March 29.

The incident occurred in an area located off Rigsby Avenue, close to Algin Avenue, after a passing individual noticed smoke emanating from a ditch. Upon arrival, crews began tackling the blaze.

Evidence of Foul Play Uncovered

As firefighters worked to put out the fire, they made a grim discovery: a human body concealed within what appeared to be a jacket or a shower curtain. A subsequent police report indicated a significant finding.

Crucially, the report stated that the individual's hands were found to be bound. This finding immediately elevated the situation from a simple fire investigation to a potential homicide case.

Ongoing Investigation and Identification Efforts

The Bexar County Medical Examiner's office has taken charge of the case. Their immediate focus is twofold: determining the official cause of death and establishing the identity of the deceased person.

Authorities are currently treating the deceased as a murder victim while the investigation proceeds.
