Responsibilities of the Deputy Editor

The Deputy Editor will work closely with the Chief Editor to lead the journal’s editorial board strategy. The editorial board plays a crucial role in the success of BMC Medicine and is central to the journal’s overall strategy.

Key Duties Include:

  • Growing and maintaining the editorial board to ensure comprehensive subject area coverage.
  • Overseeing and developing engagement with Editorial Board Members.
  • Managing the onboarding process for new Editorial Board Members.
  • Line-managing Associate/Senior Editors.
  • Handling manuscripts and participating in the editorial process (50% workload of a Senior Editor).
  • Collaborating with editors at other medical journals and experts in the international scientific community.
  • Commissioning Reviews and Comment articles.

Qualifications and Skills

Candidates should possess previous experience coordinating peer review and making independent manuscript decisions within a reputable STM (Science, Technology, and Medicine) publishing company. A strong passion for scientific communication, rigor, and transparency in research is essential.
