Bears Narrow Stadium Site Options
The Chicago Bears are approaching a critical juncture in their plans for a new, state-of-the-art stadium. The team is currently evaluating two potential locations: Arlington Heights, Illinois, and Hammond, Indiana.
Warren Announces Decision Timeline
Bears President Kevin Warren and Chairman George McCaskey addressed reporters at the NFL Owner’s Meetings in Arizona, providing an update on the stadium project. Warren stated the team aims to make a final decision by “late springtime, early summer” of 2026.
Shovels in the Ground Goal Remains
Warren reiterated his commitment to beginning construction in 2025. “I remain steadfast that the goal we have is shovels in the ground in 2025,” Warren said in January. “I’m confident it will happen.” The timeline for a decision is crucial to achieving this goal.
Site Comparison: Illinois vs. Indiana
The two sites under consideration are comparable in size. The Hammond, Indiana location spans 340 acres, while the Arlington Park site in Illinois covers 326 acres. Warren emphasized that the team is “comfortable with either site.”
Arlington Park as Sole Cook County Option
Warren clarified that Arlington Park is the only site in Cook County, Illinois, currently being considered. The team is not actively pursuing other locations within the county.
Financial Considerations are Key
A key factor in the decision will be securing favorable financial terms from Illinois and Indiana. McCaskey stated, “The fact of the matter is, we don’t have a deal to consider right now.” The Bears are seeking a comprehensive agreement from both states.
Seeking 'Tax Certainty'
Warren emphasized the importance of “tax certainty,” meaning clear and predictable expectations for taxpayers and government contributions. He framed the decision as a business transaction, not a political one. “We don’t look at this as a political exercise,” Warren said. “We look at this as a business transaction.”
