Child Abuse Indictments in Baldwin County

A Baldwin County grand jury has indicted two individuals in connection with the death of a 10-month-old girl and the abuse of her brother. The indictments were announced by the Foley Police Department earlier this week.

Charges Filed Against Tocora Brown and Larry Lawson

Tocora Monaye Brown, 22, and Larry Cordero Lawson, 30, were each indicted on two counts of felony aggravated child abuse. The charges stem from an investigation into the death of the infant.

Investigation Begins After Infant's Death

In November 2023, Foley Police were alerted by staff at Baldwin Health regarding the death of the 10-month-old girl. Medical personnel reported the child died from a head injury and displayed signs of previous head trauma, according to authorities.

Discovery of Living Conditions and Additional Abuse

The subsequent investigation revealed that the child and her brother were residing in the storage room of a retail store owned by one of the suspects. Investigators discovered the boy had suffered severe burns and also showed evidence of a prior head injury.

Arrests and Current Status

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit arrested Brown on Monday and Lawson on Tuesday. Both remain incarcerated at the Baldwin County Corrections Center as of Wednesday afternoon.
