A trough and storm system moving inland from the Pacific Ocean is set to alter Arizona's weather, introducing cooler air and the possibility of precipitation across the region this week.
Shifting Weather Pattern and Incoming System
The weather pattern is beginning to change today as the system tracks inland. This system is projected to pass north of Arizona, pulling milder air into the area.
Simultaneously, a fast-moving cold front will clip the state. This front is expected to elevate wind speeds and increase cloud cover across Arizona.
Rain and Storm Chances Across Arizona
A period of wet weather is anticipated as the cold front approaches the state. Showers and storms are forecast to increase over Northern, Western, and eventually Eastern Arizona.
Some of these storms could bring steadier rain, lightning, and strong, gusty winds. Into the evening, rain activity is expected to consolidate over northwestern Arizona.
Today's Forecast and Wind Advisory
The high temperature forecast for Tuesday is set at 92 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. Wind gusts are expected to reach 25–40 mph in Phoenix and 35–45 mph in Flagstaff today.
Due to these strong gusts, a wind advisory has been issued for a large portion of Northern Arizona, effective until 8 p.m. tonight.
Wednesday Outlook for the Valley
By early Wednesday morning, some isolated showers might affect the Valley and extend down toward Southern Arizona. These scattered showers are expected to move eastward quickly.
The state should dry out by late morning to midday tomorrow. The forecast high temperature in the Valley is expected to drop to the middle 80s.
The best opportunity for rain or a thunderstorm remains along the foothills situated on the north/east side of the Valley. In Phoenix, the limited window for showers is between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m., with only a 10–20% chance.
Looking Ahead to the Weekend
Breezy conditions will persist in the Valley, while the high country will remain windy through Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures in the upper 80s are expected to last through Thursday and Friday.
Warmer conditions, with highs returning to the low 90s, are anticipated by Easter weekend.
