Apple TV+ has unveiled the first trailer for its highly anticipated ten-episode limited series, Cape Fear. This new adaptation is set to debut this summer, bringing a modern psychological edge to the classic crime thriller narrative.

The series features a powerhouse cast, led by Academy Award winner Javier Bardem, Academy Award nominee Amy Adams, and Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Patrick Wilson. The show draws inspiration from John D. MacDonald's 1962 novel, The Executioners, and Martin Scorsese's 1991 film adaptation.

Javier Bardem steps into the role of Max Cady, the character famously portrayed by Robert De Niro 35 years ago. Cady is a recently released convicted killer obsessed with exacting revenge on the attorneys who secured his imprisonment.

The Bowden Family Under Siege

Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson portray Anna and Tom Bowden, a couple whose tranquil existence is violently disrupted by Cady's reappearance. The trailer emphasizes a slow-burn psychological confrontation between the families.

Bardem's Cady is presented with an uneasy, pervasive presence, hinted at through quick visual cuts and intense stares. He possesses a distinct, almost devilish charm, suggesting he is simultaneously everywhere and nowhere in the Bowdens' lives.

The core difference from Scorsese's 1991 film involves the focus on the family structure. In this version, Bowden's wife, Anna, becomes a central character, as she was one of the attorneys involved in Cady's conviction.

Anna, played by Adams, appears increasingly distressed as the trailer progresses. She begins to question whether her family truly merits Cady's impending wrath and whether the former felon is aware of "what they did."

Wilson's Tom exhibits palpable fear as Cady systematically infiltrates every aspect of their lives. While the original movie focused heavily on the Bowdens' teenage daughter, Danielle, this limited series appears to position Anna and Tom as the primary targets of Cady's campaign.

The series is created and showrun by Nick Antosca, known for his work on The Act. The pilot episode is slated to be directed by Academy Award nominee Morten Tyldum, who also serves as an executive producer.

The production boasts significant involvement from the original creative team. Martin Scorsese is attached as an overall director, and Steven Spielberg, who produced the 1991 film with Scorsese, returns as an executive producer.

Cape Fear is scheduled to premiere globally on Apple TV+ on June 5, 2026. The series will launch with two episodes, followed by weekly installments through July 31.
