A planned robbery at the South Florida residence of 'Real Housewives of Miami' personality Larsa Pippen was swiftly interrupted over the weekend, leading to the arrest of three suspects. Police confirmed the incident occurred on Sunday at the multimillion-dollar mansion.
Botched Break-In and Alarm Response
Forced Entry Attempt
The trio allegedly attempted to gain entry by shattering several windows at Pippen's home. However, their efforts were cut short when the property's sophisticated alarm system activated, immediately alerting law enforcement.
Larsa Pippen, the 51-year-old ex-wife of NBA legend Scottie Pippen, was reportedly not present at the residence during the attempted burglary. She was able to view the incident unfold via her surveillance system as police were en route.
Suspect Apprehensions
The Pineview Police Department quickly responded to the scene. The three individuals identified as Treison Lachae Booker (23), Cortez Daymon Johnson (23), and Elijah Eugene Russell (18) were all detained within minutes of the failed break-in.
Pinecrest Police Chief Jason Cohen was among the first responders. He witnessed the suspects attempting a hasty exit from the area. Chief Cohen reported seeing the group jump into a vehicle that subsequently crashed into another car and a nearby fence.
Chief's Foot Pursuit Leads to Capture
The Chase for Russell
Chief Cohen personally engaged in the pursuit of one suspect, Elijah Eugene Russell. Cohen described the foot chase, noting that Russell tried to flee the vicinity on foot after the crash.
"I spot walking. He’s trying to walk away, out of the area. It’s just me and him. I get out of my car, I order him to the ground," Cohen stated to Local 10. The pursuit continued across Kendall Drive and involved scaling a fence.
The chase culminated when Russell jumped into the adjacent Snapper Creek Canal. "When I get to the canal bank, he’s hanging on," Cohen recounted, adding that this was his first foot pursuit in 15 years.
Investigation and Charges
Targeting Pippen
Investigators currently theorize that Pippen was the intended target of the group, who reportedly traveled from Georgia. "They came from Georgia it looks like they went straight to this house," Chief Cohen confirmed.
The police chief emphasized the critical role of the home's security measures. "Her house was locked. Her alarm was on. Her alarm was what ended up scaring these guys off the property," Cohen told WSVN 7 News Local.
Legal Status
All three men now face charges, including attempted burglary. They are currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with bonds set between $7,500 and $8,000.
