Infant Death Leads to Indictments in Baldwin County
A Baldwin County Grand Jury has indicted Tocora Brown, 22, and Larry Lawson, 30, on two counts each of felony Aggravated Child Abuse. The indictments stem from the death of Brown’s 10-month-old daughter in November 2023.
Investigation Begins After Infant's Death
In November 2023, Foley Police responded to Baldwin Health following the death of the baby. According to police reports, medical staff determined the child died from a head injury and observed evidence of a previous head trauma.
Disturbing Living Conditions Discovered
The investigation led authorities to a local retail store where Brown and her other child, a brother to the deceased infant, were reportedly living in the store’s storage room. Police discovered the brother had suffered severe burns and also showed signs of a prior head injury.
“The brother was immediately placed into the care of the Department of Human Resources,” stated the Foley Police Department in a press release. Brown was employed by the business, and Lawson is the owner.
Arrests and Current Status
Both Brown and Lawson were arrested earlier this week by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit. They are currently being held in custody. Further details regarding the trial have not been released at this time.
