Fatal Collision on Delsea Drive

Deptford Township police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Monday night. Officers were dispatched to a section of Delsea Drive at approximately 8:30 p.m. following reports of a vehicle striking a bicyclist.

Initial investigations revealed that two vehicles were involved in the incident. While one driver remained at the scene and contacted 911, investigators report that a second vehicle struck the cyclist and fled the area. A witness confirmed that the second vehicle briefly stopped before continuing down Delsea Drive. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspect Returns to Scene

Two hours after the collision, 18-year-old Iqrar Ahmad returned to the site and identified himself as the driver of the second vehicle. Ahmad told authorities he initially believed he had struck a rock or a large object while driving through the area.

According to a police press release, Ahmad stated that he pulled over further north to inspect his vehicle. After noticing damage to the lower grille, he claimed he still did not realize he had hit a person. He then returned home, spoke with a family member, and subsequently decided to return to the accident location.

Following his return to the scene, Iqrar Ahmad was taken into custody. He faces one count of second-degree leaving the scene of a fatal accident. If convicted, this charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in state prison.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased bicyclist. Furthermore, no additional information has been provided regarding the first driver involved in the incident.
