A travel writer recently experienced the height of luxury with a stay in the exclusive Christian Dior suite at the Hotel Barriere Le Majestic in Cannes, France, during the build-up to the Cannes Film Festival.
A Glimpse of Film Festival Glamour
From the suite’s balcony, the red carpet of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès is clearly visible. The Cannes Film Festival ran from May 12th to 23rd, and this suite is considered by many to be the finest room in the French film capital.
Opulent Design and Celebrity History
The Christian Dior suite at Hotel Barriere Le Majestic is uniquely designed throughout Europe by the renowned fashion house. Upon entering, guests are immediately captivated by the elegant parquet floors and plush carpeting.
Iconic images of stars like Marilyn Monroe and Sophia Loren adorn the walls. The central ‘salon’ features sparkly silver sofas, bowls of fresh fruit, and a portrait of Christian Dior himself.
A Suite for Two
Effectively a double suite, the writer shared the experience with a friend. The signature cannage Dior motif, famously seen on the Lady Dior handbags favored by Princess Diana, is subtly integrated into the sliding doors.
The Heart of Red Carpet Preparations
During the film festival, the House of Dior reserves this suite, transforming it into a sprawling dressing room. Celebrities preparing for the red carpet undergo meticulous beauty routines within its walls.
A Hotel Steeped in Star Power
The Majestic Hotel boasts a long history of hosting A-list stars, including Catherine Deneuve, Monica Bellucci, Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Isabelle Huppert, Sophie Marceau, Tommy Lee Jones, Jack Nicholson, and Nicole Kidman.
However, the hotel extends this level of service to all guests. Following a butler’s recommendation, the writer and her friend enjoyed lunch at Ciro’s beach club, observing the elegantly dressed clientele and enjoying champagne and oysters.
Exploring Cannes and Indulgent Evenings
A visit to the Dior boutique on the Croisette and exploration of the city’s old quarter were also part of the experience. Returning to the suite, the writer prepared for dinner with an hour-long bath, inspired by Brigitte Bardot.
Dinner at Fouquet’s, soon to be replaced by Beefbar, featured beef tenderloin with peppercorn sauce and expertly paired red wine. The evening concluded with a choice between crème brûlée and chocolate fondant.
Ultimate Relaxation
The indulgence continued the following day with a full-body massage with jasmine essential oil at Le Majestic Spa, leaving the writer feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated.
