A recent scandal involving former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore has taken a deeply personal turn. Paige Shiver, his former subordinate and girlfriend, has publicly detailed their years-long relationship and alleged abuse of power.

Relationship Begins Amidst Controversy

In a revealing interview aired on Friday, Shiver, 32, described how their relationship began in 2022 while she was an intern and Moore was married, serving as the offensive coordinator. The dynamic changed when Moore was promoted to head coach in early 2024, following Jim Harbaugh’s departure, and Shiver transitioned into the role of his executive assistant.

Claims of Manipulation and Control

Shiver initially believed she was in love, but now describes the relationship as manipulative and controlling. She recounts instances where Moore pressured her to remain in the relationship, leveraging his position of authority over her career prospects. Shiver stated that Moore and other coaches held significant control over her professional life, creating a climate of fear.

Pregnancy and Difficult Decision

The situation became more complex when Shiver became pregnant. Simultaneously, she was diagnosed with Pompe disease, a severe muscle-weakening condition. Medical professionals advised against continuing the pregnancy due to the risks to her health.

Shiver shared this news with Moore, who, according to her, responded with: 'You have to do what’s right for your body.' She ultimately made the agonizing decision to terminate the pregnancy.

University Response and Legal Consequences

Shiver’s decision to come forward aims to protect other young women from similar exploitation. She asserts that the relationship was an open secret within the Michigan athletic program, yet university officials failed to intervene. Her attorney, Andrew Stroth, characterized the situation as a 'systemic failure' and called for accountability from university leadership.

The University of Michigan stated they terminated Moore’s employment upon learning of the affair in December, citing a violation of university policy. Following his termination, Moore allegedly confronted Shiver at her apartment, threatening self-harm, leading to his arrest.

Moore pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors – malicious use of a telecommunications device and trespassing – and was sentenced to 18 months of probation. Shiver believes the punishment was insufficient and expressed fear for her life during the confrontation.
