Former Premier League star Michail Antonio has been convicted of failing to identify the driver of his Lamborghini after it was caught speeding in Birmingham. The conviction, combined with existing points on his license, puts his driving privileges at risk.
Speeding Incident and Court Ruling
The incident occurred in March 2024, when the Lamborghini was recorded exceeding the 40mph speed limit on Birmingham’s inner ring road, reaching 50mph. While the initial speeding charge was dropped due to insufficient evidence, Antonio was found guilty in absentia of failing to provide police with driver information.
Points and Potential Ban
This conviction carries a mandatory six penalty points. Given Antonio already had six points on his license, this triggers the ‘totting-up’ procedure, potentially leading to an automatic driving ban. The case was heard at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court, and Antonio did not attend.
Recent Crash and Previous Offenses
This latest legal trouble comes less than a year after a serious crash in December 2024, where Antonio sustained life-threatening injuries while driving a Ferrari. Prosecutor Lucy Allen highlighted Antonio’s prior driving offenses, including a conviction for driving without insurance related to the Ferrari incident.
Ferrari Crash Details
The December 2024 Ferrari crash resulted in a ‘shattered’ leg for Antonio, requiring over three weeks of hospitalization. He was trapped in the wreckage for 45 minutes before being freed by emergency services.
Past Incidents and Sentencing
Antonio previously crashed a Lamborghini Huracan into a family’s bin shed in 2019 while dressed as a snowman on Christmas Day. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 19th at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court. Reports also indicate he faces separate driving charges in London.
Change of Heart?
Following the severe Ferrari crash, Antonio publicly stated he had been given ‘another chance at life’ and vowed to avoid sports cars, even switching to a Mercedes people carrier with a driver. However, the Lamborghini speeding incident, occurring shortly after this interview, raises questions about this commitment.
