Kennedy highlighted that the often-criticized, deliberate pace of the legislative process is a fundamental aspect of Congress’s design. Recent Gallup polls reveal a significant drop in public confidence, with approval currently at 10% and disapproval at a record-high 86%. A Deseret News-Hinckley Institute of Politics poll showed slightly more favorable views among Utah voters, with 28% overall approval, rising to 42% among Republicans but falling to 10% among Democrats.

Ongoing Challenges and Frustration

This erosion of trust coincides with frustration within the Republican party regarding the Senate’s inability to pass Utah Senator Mike Lee’s Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act. There are also struggles to secure funding for the Department of Homeland Security and reluctance to act on President Donald Trump’s proposed military intervention in Iran.
