Families in Rochester, New York, benefited from a free adoption event at the Verona Street Animal Shelter, where dogs found loving homes. The shelter’s initiative aimed to increase accessibility to pet adoption.
A New Home for Cobbler
Makenzie and her brother Greyson had been hoping to adopt a dog and were delighted to find Cobbler at the Verona Street Animal Shelter after seeing him online. Although another dog, Ham, had already been adopted, Cobbler quickly captured their hearts.
Makenzie described Cobbler as “sweet, quiet, and affectionate,” noting he even “hugged” both her and her mother. His gentle nature and endearing appearance sealed the deal for the family.
Shelter's Adoption Initiative
The free adoption event was designed to help clear the shelter’s cages and remove financial obstacles to pet ownership. ReyJeanne Antoine, a shelter worker, expressed her happiness at seeing so many people eager to provide a loving home for a dog.
Many of the animals arrive at the shelter having experienced hardship, often malnourished or dehydrated. With dedicated care, the shelter successfully finds permanent homes for these animals through adoption.
Event Details
The adoption event took place until 4 p.m. on Saturday and is scheduled to repeat for the next two Saturdays, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
