Jarrod Holt, 51, of La Marque, Texas, died early Sunday morning after experiencing a medical emergency while in custody at the Galveston County Jail.
Arrest and Initial Evaluation
Holt was arrested by the La Marque Police Department at 4:49 a.m. on a felony parole board warrant. He arrived at the Galveston County Jail around 5:39 a.m. and underwent a standard medical evaluation by University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) staff.
This initial assessment did not reveal any immediate critical health concerns.
Rapid Deterioration and Emergency Response
Shortly after the evaluation, Holt’s condition rapidly declined. He began experiencing symptoms including profuse vomiting and excessive sweating, indicating a severe medical crisis.
UTMB medical personnel immediately began emergency medical intervention, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), to stabilize Holt. Despite these efforts, his condition continued to worsen.
Pronouncement of Death and Investigation
Holt was transported to UTMB Galveston for advanced medical care, but was pronounced dead at 6:44 a.m.
The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office has initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Holt’s death. In accordance with Texas Jail Standards, the Texas Rangers and the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office were notified.
Independent Review
Both the Texas Rangers and the District Attorney’s Office are conducting an independent review to determine the cause of death and ensure all procedures were followed. They are reviewing medical records, security footage, and conducting interviews.
The Sheriff’s Office is fully cooperating with the investigating agencies.
