A Cy-Fair Independent School District behavior specialist is facing criminal charges following the death of a 16-year-old student with autism. Donald Perkins has been charged with injury to a disabled person after an incident that occurred on April 23rd at the Carlton Center, a campus within the district.

Court records detail a sequence of events leading to the student’s death. The incident began on a school bus when the student reportedly took food from the bus driver. After consuming the food, Perkins removed the student from the bus and escorted him to the Carlton Center.

Alleged Assault and Immediate Aftermath

According to court documents obtained by ABC13, Perkins then engaged in a 'unprovoked physical assault,' forcefully shoving the student into a classroom. Surveillance footage reportedly captured the impact, with records noting a distinct 'loud thud' as the student made contact with the floor.

Documentation reveals that Perkins proceeded with the forceful push despite knowing the student had food in his mouth and a pre-existing history of choking hazards. The student initially regained his footing and sat down independently.

Deteriorating Condition and Hospitalization

The student soon began to exhibit signs of choking, prompting immediate concern from staff members. His condition rapidly deteriorated, with records stating his body 'became limp shortly thereafter.'

Medical attention was sought immediately, and the student was first transported to a local hospital before being airlifted to The Texas Medical Center in critical condition. Sadly, the student succumbed to his injuries and passed away on April 29th, as confirmed by his father.
