The incident unfolded shortly after 3:00 a.m. in the 3300 block of West Irving Park Road, drawing a swift response from the Chicago Police Department. Preliminary investigations indicate a 34-year-old woman was driving a light-colored Kia sedan with passengers.

Sequence of Events

While traveling westbound on Irving Park Road, the Kia attempted a lane change into the right lane, colliding with a light-colored Volkswagen sedan traveling in the same direction. The impact caused the Kia to strike a nearby tree.

Simultaneously, the Volkswagen veered off the roadway and collided with a residential building, potentially causing structural damage.

Injuries and Medical Response

The driver of the Kia sustained significant injuries and was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where she remains in critical condition. A 38-year-old male passenger in the Kia suffered cuts and abrasions and was also taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital, listed in good condition.

Two additional male passengers, ages 26 and unknown, were at the scene but declined medical attention.
