A significant Transportation Celebration is scheduled to take place this weekend, April 25th and 26th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, at the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum, a National Historic Landmark located at 400 Center St. in Dennison, Ohio.
Celebrating 250 Years of Ohio Transportation
The event serves as a tribute to Ohio’s pivotal role in the nation’s transportation evolution over the past 250 years. It promises a comprehensive exploration of rail, aviation, and automotive history, combined with live entertainment and interactive experiences.
Immersive Experiences and Key Attractions
Todd Kleismit, the executive director of America 250-Ohio, emphasized the event’s immersive approach to bringing Ohio’s transportation narrative to life. He highlighted the state’s central position in the development of transportation, from railroads to modern innovations.
Historic Train Ride & Goodyear Blimp
The centerpiece of the celebration is a historic passenger train ride, which is sold out, expected to carry over 1,500 passengers. The train will have a three-hour layover in Dennison, allowing riders to explore the festival. On Sunday, the Goodyear Blimp will accompany the train into Dennison and remain overhead.
Themed Zones and Exhibits
The festival grounds will feature themed areas including “Aviation Alley” with aircraft displays, “Veterans Village” honoring service members, and “Arts Avenue” showcasing local arts and cultural groups.
Attendees can expect to see a diverse range of vehicles, from classic 1940s Railway Express trucks to contemporary models like the Tesla, alongside an electric vehicle from an Ohio museum. Three steam locomotives, including one operational, and historic rail cars will also be on display.
Family-Friendly Activities and Entertainment
The Transportation Celebration will cater to all ages with kids’ zones and hands-on activities. Two entertainment stages will host live performances, and 17 food trucks and a mess hall will provide a variety of food options.
Part of a Statewide Initiative
This event is a key component of America 250-Ohio, a statewide initiative connecting over 80 sites significant to Ohio’s transportation heritage. A special announcement is planned for Sunday during the train’s layover. Communities along the train route are also participating in the festivities.
The Transportation Celebration aims to be a comprehensive and engaging exploration of Ohio’s transportation history and its impact on the nation.
