Multiple streets in Salt Lake City will be temporarily closed on Saturday, April 25th, for the annual Salt Lake City Marathon. Residents and commuters should prepare for significant traffic disruptions.

Marathon-Related Street Closures

A comprehensive network of street closures will be implemented to facilitate the marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K events. These closures are necessary to ensure the safety of all race participants.

Race Start Times

  • Marathon & Half Marathon: 7:00 AM
  • 10K: 7:05 AM
  • 5K: 7:10 AM
  • Closures are scheduled to begin well before the race start times, with many roads remaining closed until 3:00 PM. Some street closures may persist for up to seven hours.

Salt Lake City Police and Unified Police officers will be positioned at major intersections to allow pedestrian crossings when feasible, though delays are still anticipated. The decision to close streets is guided by public safety departments in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Millcreek, and Holladay.

    Additional Traffic Incidents

Beyond the marathon, unrelated incidents are adding to transportation challenges in Utah. All eastbound lanes on Interstate 80 in Tooele County are closed due to a multi-vehicle collision involving semi-trucks. The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating.

    Other News Events

A preliminary hearing was held for Parker Kingston, facing rape allegations, potentially causing localized congestion near the courthouse. A fireball was also observed in Utah’s skies on Thursday morning. Additionally, Taylorsville High School is investigating harassment and sexual assault threats against students.

Marathon organizers have apologized for any inconvenience and expressed gratitude for the community’s understanding and support.
