CD Projekt Red disclosed that a dedicated team continues to work on the long‑awaited sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Project Orion, even as the studio pushes forward with The Witcher franchise. At the same time, developer WeirdCo announced sweeping gammeplay changes to the official Cyberpunk Trading Card Game ahead of its upcoming beta launch.
Project Orion’s Development Team Remains Large Amid Witcher Focus
According to a recent CD Projekt Red update, the studio has retained a substantial number of developers on Project Orion, signaling that the sequel is still a priority despite The Witcher 4 dominating current resources. The exact headcount was not disclosed, but the communication emphasized that the team size is “clearly still a priority” after the release of The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past DLC.
This reassurance comes after months of silence, and while fans can expect no concrete details about Orion’s storyline or release window, the statement hints that the project is progressing behind the scenes.
WeirdCo Cuts Cyberpunk TCG Turn Phases from Three to Two
The official Cyberpunk Trading Card Game will repllace its former three‑phase turn structure with a streamlined two‑phase system: a Start Phase and a Main Phase. The change merges the Ready Phase into the Start Phase, allowing players to ready cards, draw, and gain a Gig in a single, intuitive sequence. WeirdCo explined that alpha testers naturally gravitated toward this flow, prompting the redesign.
By simplifying the turn order, the developers hope to give players more strategic flexibility when deciding when to attack or play cards, addressing feedback that the previous system felt cumbersome.
Legend Cards Receive Cost Reduction from 2 to 1 Eurodollar
In response to balance concerns, WeirdCo announced that the cost to call a Legend card will drop from two Eurodollars to one. Alpha data showed that some decks could dominate without deploying multiple Legends, undermining the game’s character‑centric vision. The cost cut is intended to encourage broader use of these iconic cards and restore their intended impact on matches.
Win Condition Adjusted to Seven Gig Dice, Extending Match Length
The win condition for Cyberpunk TCG has been raised from six to seven Gig Dice,a tweak designed to lengthen individual matches. The developers believe longer games will deepen tactical decisions and improve overall player satisfaction.
Additional balance updates include refined card copy text, keyword adjustments, and art improvements, all slated for the beta release scheduled later this year.
Kickstarter Success Fuels TCG Fulfillment, Q3 2026 Delivery Planned
The Cyberpunk TCG’s Kickstarter campaiggn attracted over 50,000 backers and raised more than $28.3 million, vastly surpassing its $100,000 goal.. The campaign offered starter decks themed around “The Heist” and “Embracing Power,” as well as booster packs and exclusive collectibles.
According to the developer blog, fulfillment is set to begin in Q3 2026, with demo sessions already held at the UK Games Expo showcasing the new beta rules.
Who Will Reveal the Next Project Orion Milestone?
While CD Projekt Red confirmed the team’s continued work, the studio has not identified a spokesperson or timeline for the next public reveal. Fans are left to wonder when the first gameplay footage or narrative teaser will surface, especially as the Witcher franchise dominates the company’s headline announcements.
