Pippa Middleton and James Matthews’ Bucklebury Farm is set to open a new day nursery for children aged six months to five years, confirmed via an Instagram post on Friday.
Nursery Approval After Traffic Concerns
The approval comes despite previous objections from highway bosses who expressed concerns about increased traffic in the surrounding rural area. The couple received approval in August after the council acknowledged the nursery would provide significant social benefits.
Unique Learning Environment
The nursery will cater to children aged six months to five years, offering a limited number of places to ensure personalized care. A key feature will be its location within the countryside, providing daily access to the farm park and hands-on learning experiences with animals and the natural environment.
Connection to Early Childhood Development
Pippa Middleton’s initiative aligns with the work of her sister, the Princess of Wales, who has prioritized early childhood development. The Princess’s Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood actively promotes a nurturing society through research and advocacy.
Farm History and Expansion
Pippa and James purchased the 72-acre Bucklebury Farm in 2020 for £1.5 million. The property already includes a deer park, café, glamping pods, and a children’s play area. The farm has a history of welcoming young visitors, with reports suggesting Prince George enjoyed visiting the petting zoo.
Addressing Local Childcare Needs
The nursery aims to address a gap in local childcare provision, with no similar facilities available within a five-mile radius. Planners were assured the nursery would operate with a maximum of 24 children, staffed by a manager, two qualified teachers, and apprentices.
Traffic Impact Assessment
Projected vehicle movements are estimated at 48 per day, significantly lower than the farm’s existing traffic volume from its 45,000 annual visitors. The application highlighted strong parental interest, with 17 to 20 parents already expressing interest in enrolling their children.
