Gareth Brisbane, widower of Australian psychologist and dating expert Mel Schilling, has revealed details about the family’s private funeral service following her death at age 54 after a battle with cancer. Mel is survived by Gareth and their daughter, Maddie.
Intimate Funeral and Heartfelt Tribute
The intimate ceremony took place on April 9th and was live-streamed to family members in Australia. A particularly moving moment was a speech delivered by their daughter, Maddie, which Gareth described as a source of immense pride, reflecting her mother’s spirit.
Honoring Mel's Wishes
Following the funeral, the family fulfilled Mel’s final wish by scattering her ashes at the lighthouse in Gareth’s hometown of Whitehead, Northern Ireland. Gareth spoke of Mel’s strong connection to the town, appreciating its welcoming atmosphere and peaceful environment.
A Special Connection to Northern Ireland
He noted that Whitehead held many cherished memories from their fifteen years together and that they plan to revisit for quiet reflection.
New Beginnings in Bali
The family is now preparing to relocate to Bali, a place they all loved and where they have a network of friends. A blessing ceremony for Mel was held at their new villa in Bali last weekend.
Remembering Mel's Character
Gareth shared a photograph of Mel, chosen as her funeral portrait, highlighting her glamour, warmth, and vulnerability.
Mel Schilling's Cancer Journey
Mel was initially diagnosed with colon cancer in 2023 and received positive news after a tumor was removed. Tragically, the cancer metastasized to her lungs in February 2024 and subsequently to her brain.
A Moving Tribute
