EastEnders actor Jake Wood is set to unveil his debut art exhibition, ‘ICONS’, as a tribute to his late friend and former co-star, Dame Barbara Windsor. The exhibition will feature artwork celebrating influential figures in British culture.
Celebrating British Icons
The invite-only exhibition will prominently feature artwork of Winston Churchill, alongside a special print dedicated to honoring Dame Barbara Windsor. The timing of the exhibition coincides with VE Day, adding significance to the celebration of British icons.
A Tribute to Dame Barbara Windsor
Wood’s portrait of Dame Barbara, inspired by a 2016 photograph taken when she received her Damehood, aims to capture her vibrant personality. He enhanced the image with vibrant colors and overlaid it with street art and graffiti, creating a dynamic tribute.
Supporting Dementia UK
The artistic endeavor aims to raise funds and awareness for Dementia UK, a cause deeply personal to Wood following Dame Barbara’s battle with the disease. Ten percent of all sales from the exhibition will be donated directly to the charity.
A Lasting Friendship
Wood shared that Dame Barbara provided invaluable support when he first joined EastEnders, encouraging him to remain true to himself. Her legacy extends beyond her celebrated career, and her impact continues to be felt.
Dame Barbara Windsor's Legacy
Following her passing in 2020 at the age of 83, Dame Barbara Windsor’s widower, Scott Mitchell, inherited a substantial estate, which she directed towards charities including the NSPCC, Breast Cancer Care, and Age UK.
Continuing to Remember
Mitchell has spoken openly about his grief and the enduring impact of Barbara’s loss, finding solace in a new relationship with Tanya Franks. He emphasizes the importance of carrying her memory forward. The exhibition serves as a powerful tribute to her life and contributions, and a commitment to supporting those affected by dementia.
