Bumpus' Public Apology

William Bumpus, the ex-husband of television journalist Gayle King,has issued a public apology for cheating on her nearly four decades ago. In a statement released through his attorney, Bumpus expressed reomrse for his actions and acknowledged the pain he caused King and their family. This apology comes after King detailed the infidelity on the popular podcast Call Her Daddy.

Bumpus, 70, said, I apologize to Gayle, and to our three grandchildren, for the pain I caused decades ago. Those actions were mine. I respect her right to tell her story, and that is where I will leave it.

King's Account of the Incident

King, 70, recounted the moment she discovered her husband cheating with one of her best friends in 1990. She explained that she returned home after a flight cancellation and found her then-husband trying to prevent her from entering. I did not believe him. I get down and there they are, or there she is cowering behind the door in my towel. It was a nice bath sheet.

King said she kept her composure to shield her young children , Kirby and William, from the trauma. I was thinking, The kids are here, I do not want anybody to know. That was my main thought. That would not happen to me today.

Co-parenting and King's CBS Commitment

Bumpus, a Yale Law School graduate, expressed gratitude for King's support and their successful co-parenting relationship. She gave me two of the greatest gifts of my life, our daughter Kirby and our son William.. It was Gayle who encouraged and supported me through getting my Yale Law degree. And it was Gayle who chose, with me, to co-parent successfully from the very beginning.

In a separate development, King recently faced controversy after using an uncensored gay slur while attempting to tell a joke on CBS Mornings during an interview with comedian Matteo Lane. She later clarified that it was a misstep. additionally, King reaffirmed her commitment to CBS News amid speculation about her departure, stating, Rumors of my demise were inaccurate and greatly exaggerated.
