Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi were seen enjoying a night out in London, signaling their continued adjustment to life in the United Kingdom.
London Outing and UK Relocation
The couple was spotted leaving the exclusive Maison Estelle in Mayfair on Wednesday evening. Married since 2008, DeGeneres and De Rossi have been exploring prestigious locations throughout the UK since relocating from the United States in 2024.
Ellen, 68, was assisted by her wife, 53, as they exited the private members’ club. Ellen wore a black polo shirt, navy trousers, and a brown windbreaker, while Portia, known for her role in Ally McBeal, opted for a red knitted jumper and navy jacket. They were seen holding hands.
Cotswolds Estate and Initial Challenges
The move to the Cotswolds was initially motivated by a desire to escape what they described as the ‘perils’ of Donald Trump’s America. They invested heavily in renovating a farmhouse into a country estate, employing 70 builders and craftsmen over 18 months.
However, the completed estate was quickly flooded, forcing them to seek higher ground and purchase a £25 million hilltop property. Despite listing their first Cotswolds property for £22 million, a recent planning application demonstrates their commitment to the area.
Archaeological Concerns Halt Equestrian Plans
The couple’s plans to build an equestrian facility are now facing challenges. Oxfordshire County Archaeological Services has raised concerns about the potential impact on nearby Roman archaeological sites.
The area surrounding their estate is rich in Roman history, including a Roman bridge, a protected villa, and a bathhouse. Construction of the stables could potentially disturb undiscovered Roman remains.
Ellen has previously stated that accommodating Portia’s passion for horses, including a facility and pastures, was essential to making the Cotswolds their full-time home. The couple will need to address these archaeological concerns with the local council to move forward with their plans.
