Digga D Sparks Outrage with Public Support
Drill rapper Digga D has ignited significant controversy after expressing support for his friend, Perry Allen-Thomas, who was recently convicted of murdering Michelle Sadio in London. The incident has brought renewed attention to the rapper’s past legal issues and the themes present in his music.
Details of the Tragic Shooting
Rhys Herbert, known professionally as Digga D, voiced his support following the guilty verdict on Tuesday regarding the death of 44-year-old Ms. Sadio. The shooting took place on December 14, 2024, during a wake held at the River of Life Pentecostal Church in Willesden, north London. Approximately 100 people, including children, were in attendance.
The Incident and Victims
A stolen Kia vehicle was used in the attack, and shots were fired, resulting in the immediate death of Ms. Sadio. Two other individuals, Kenneth Amoah and Kadeem Francis, were also injured. Amoah suffered paralysis below the waist as a result of the shooting.
Digga D’s Controversial Response
Following the verdict, Digga D shared a post on Snapchat featuring a picture of Allen-Thomas accompanied by broken heart emojis and the messages “f***ed up system” and “3 my darg.” This post quickly gained traction online, drawing widespread condemnation.
Public Criticism
Critics have denounced Digga D’s comments as insensitive and supportive of violence, questioning his rationale for viewing the legal outcome as unjust. The rapper has a history of legal troubles, including a previous jail sentence for importing and supplying cannabis.
Trial Details and Convictions
Alongside Allen-Thomas, Amir Salem was also found guilty of murder and two counts of attempted murder. Evidence presented during the trial indicated Allen-Thomas assisted in organizing the shooting while establishing an alibi for himself. Salem purchased petrol used to set the stolen Kia ablaze after the attack.
The Intended Target and 'Gang Gun'
The intended target of the shooting was reportedly rapper Trapstar Toxic. The weapon used in the shooting was identified as a ‘gang gun’ and had been linked to previous incidents. Shaquille Sutherland and Tahjin Sommersall were acquitted of wrongdoing in the case.
Broader Implications
Digga D’s public endorsement of a convicted murderer has raised concerns about his influence and responsibility, especially considering his large following and history of promoting a violent lifestyle. This incident has reignited the debate surrounding the role of music in inciting violence and the accountability of artists.
