A dispute at Chessington World of Adventures on Sunday involved accusations of queue jumping and subsequent claims of racism, which have been strongly refuted by a father, Luke Tickner.
Queue Jumping Allegation
Tickner alleges a family attempted to bypass the queue for the newly opened Zuma’s Hovercraft Adventure ride, located within the £15 million ‘World of Paw Patrol’ area. He claims the family falsely stated they were returning to the queue after a toilet break, despite never having been in line.
Escalating Argument
The situation escalated into a heated argument, with the family accusing Tickner of racism. He vehemently denies these accusations, stating he was simply upholding park rules and protecting his son, who he claims was pushed by the mother. He also alleges the family attempted the same tactic the previous day, with the mother reportedly being on other rides while the rest of the family tried to rejoin the queue.
Video Evidence and Park Response
The incident was captured on video by content creators Ben and Jacob from the ‘Ride Comparisons’ channel. The footage shows a woman arguing with a ride attendant, insisting her family had briefly left for the toilet. The attendant offered to involve security to verify the claim, but the woman declined.
Tickner warned the man he would be featured on YouTube during the confrontation. Park staff were reportedly willing to review security footage, which, according to Tickner, confirmed the family had not been queuing.
Tickner's Explanation
Tickner emphasized his actions were motivated by fair queuing practices and a response to being falsely accused, not by racism. He has since shared a photo online jokingly offering his services to Merlin, the owner of Chessington World of Adventures.
Park Rules and Ongoing Discussion
Chessington’s rules state that individuals leaving the queue must inform a staff member, and security is available to verify queue positions. The incident has sparked online discussion, with the video gaining significant attention.
Both families maintain their accounts of the event, highlighting the potential for frustration in crowded theme parks and the importance of adhering to park regulations. Zuma’s Hovercraft Adventure is the UK’s first ‘drifter’ ride, simulating a high-performance vehicle drift, and has been previewed by celebrities including Nick Mohammed, Joe Marler, and Alex Jones.
