Filming for the highly anticipated second series of the BBC’s Celebrity Traitors is now underway in the Scottish Highlands. A wave of celebrities were spotted arriving at Inverness airport over the weekend to begin production.
Stars Arrive in Scotland
Among the first to arrive on Sunday was Maya Jama, known for her role hosting Love Island. She traded the warmer climates of Spain and South Africa for Scotland. Reports indicate Jama accepted a pay cut of approximately £760,000 to participate in the show.
Pay Cut and Motivation
Sources suggest Jama’s decision to take a reduced fee was influenced by her enjoyment of the first series and her relationship with boyfriend Rúben Dias. She was seen arriving at the airport alongside comedian Joanne McNally.
Diverse Cast Lineup
The official cast announcement on Saturday revealed a group of 21 celebrities. Julie Hesmondhalgh of Coronation Street and Ross Kemp from EastEnders were also seen making their way to Ardross Castle, the filming location.
Additional Celebrities
Singer James Blunt and comedian Miranda Hart, accompanied by her husband Richard Fairs, arrived via private jet. The cast also includes Michael Sheen, Jerry Hall, Richard E Grant, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock of Little Mix.
Strategic Casting and Show Premise
Producers aimed for a broad audience appeal with this season’s cast, with Maya Jama specifically targeted due to her popularity with younger viewers. Rising stars Bella Ramsey and Sebastian Croft are also featured.
Teaser and Jama's Strategy
A teaser trailer, filmed in an airport arrivals area, showcased the full cast list. Jama has expressed a desire to be “as deceitful as possible” to succeed in the game of betrayal and trust. Her filming schedule is designed to allow a seamless transition to hosting Love Island in Majorca in June.
Full Cast Details
The complete cast includes comedians Rob Beckett, Joe Lycett, and James Acaster, mathematician Hannah Fry, broadcaster Amol Rajan, prankster King Kenny, Industry star Myha’la, and Sharon Rooney of My Mad Fat Diary.
