Former Loose Women host Carol McGiffin has shared her desire for another facelift but stated she won’t pursue the procedure due to financial constraints and concern for her husband, Mark Cassidy’s, reaction.
Desire for Another Procedure
The 66-year-old television personality, known for her appearances on Loose Women, underwent a facelift in 2018, showcasing the results on ITV. She now feels the effects of that surgery are diminishing and believes another procedure would be beneficial.
Financial Barriers and Husband's Reaction
However, the significant cost – ranging from £4,000 to £30,000 depending on the complexity and surgeon – makes it unattainable. McGiffin also revealed that Mark, 43, was deeply unsettled by her post-operative appearance following the initial facelift, describing it as ‘gruesome’ due to the bruising and swelling.
Reflections on Aging and Appearance
McGiffin’s candid conversation, which took place on the Suddenly Single podcast, also touched upon the broader challenges of aging and accepting changes in one’s appearance. She admitted to disliking her face, finding it acceptable only when smiling, but ‘horrible’ when experiencing negative emotions.
She acknowledged the substantial financial investment many people make in anti-aging treatments, highlighting the expense involved in attempting to maintain a youthful look.
Past Decisions and Relationships
Beyond cosmetic considerations, McGiffin also addressed past decisions that caused familial upset. She expressed regret over the couple’s decision to elope and marry in Bangkok in 2018 without informing family or friends for several months afterward.
She explained that after a decade together, and approaching their 18th anniversary, they felt a large celebration was unnecessary, but acknowledged the hurt caused by their secrecy.
Support During Cancer Battle
Carol McGiffin’s life has included significant personal challenges and relationships. Mark Cassidy has been a constant source of support, particularly during her battle with stage 3 breast cancer in 2015. She described him as ‘unbelievable’ throughout her treatment, even assisting with the practicalities of coping with hair loss by shaving her head.
Prior to her relationship with Mark, McGiffin was married to radio and television presenter Chris Evans, from 1991 to 1998. Her openness about her experiences provides a relatable insight into the complexities of life and aging.
