Beverley Callard, known for her appearances on I'm A Celebrity, has announced she will be unable to attend the show’s live final this Friday. This decision is based on medical advice as she continues treatment for breast cancer.
Health Scare During Filming
The actress, 69, was initially forced to leave the I'm A Celebrity South Africa series last year after experiencing a health issue. Following medical evaluation, she was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.
Treatment and Recovery
Callard shared the news and her disappointment via Instagram, explaining that the combination of travel and a late night would be too strenuous given her current health. She will participate in the final via Zoom, hosted by Ant and Dec in London.
Initial Health Episode in South Africa
Callard’s health journey began during filming in Kruger National Park. She experienced a “funny turn” and briefly lost consciousness in the Bush Telegraph.
Resisting Withdrawal
Medical staff advised her to withdraw from the competition, a decision she initially resisted. She wanted to continue and demonstrate that older women could succeed on the show. Reflecting on the footage, she became emotional realizing it marked the beginning of her cancer battle.
Campmate Reactions
Her departure visibly upset her fellow campmates. Adam broke down in tears, and Scarlett Moffatt noted the camp wouldn’t be the same without her.
Previous 'I'm A Celeb' Experience
Despite the difficult circumstances, Callard cherished her experience, describing it as “wonderful.” This was a significant improvement over her previous stint on the show in 2020, which was complicated by a recent hip replacement.
Callard previously participated in the 20th series of I'm A Celebrity, filmed at Gwrych Castle in Wales. She emphasized that the South Africa series, with its warmer climate and fewer physical limitations, allowed her to fully engage in the challenges.
Looking Ahead
While awaiting surgery results due to a backlog, Callard remains determined to beat cancer. She is focusing on resting and following medical guidance. She expressed gratitude for the support she has received and is looking forward to connecting with her fellow campmates virtually during the final.
